Greensboro, NC-based Tencarva Machinery Company has announced the acquisition of Saladin Pump & Equipment Co., effective Feb. 5 for an undisclosed amount.
Founded in 1985 by John Saladin Sr., Saladin Pump & Equipment is an industrial pump distributor based in Beaumont, TX, with a satellite office in Lake Charles, LA. The company serves the southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana markets, catering to industrial plants. According to its website, the company has more than $11 million in annual sales, 18 product lines and 16 employees. Saladin Pump is a long-time Goulds distributor and, in addition to the ITT companies, it represents Xylem, John Crane, Warren-Rupp, Roper, Liquiflo and Prominent, as well as many other manufacturers.
Tencarva is an industrial distributor specializing in pumps, liquid process and custom-designed systems for the industrial and municipal marketplace. Founded in 1978, it was No. 44 on Industrial Distribution‘s 2017 Big 50 List. Tencarva said the acquisition boosts its headcount to 375 employees across 29 branches in 10 states: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
Former Saladin president John Saladin Jr. will remain with the company for a transition period. Tencarva president Edwin Pearce III said all Saladin employees have become part of the Tencarva team. Henry Ritchie, Tencarva vice president, is overseeing both the operations and sales activities for Saladin Pump & Equipment.
Tencarva said the core territory for Saladin Pump & Equipment includes the following five counties in Texas: Hardin, Jasper, Jefferson, Newton and Orange; and the following five parishes in Louisiana: Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis. The Saladin Pump & Equipment facility includes a shop for repair of pumps and other rotating equipment.
“When I made the decision to sell Saladin Pump & Equipment, I wanted to deal with a company that would treat our people right and would carry on our company’s legacy in a positive way,” Saladin Jr. said. “With 16 employees, we are like a family, and it was very important to me that our people would continue to be part of a good, well-run organization. Though Tencarva is much larger, our company cultures are a good fit with each other. I really believe that this will end up being positive for our customers, our vendors, our employees and Tencarva.”
“Saladin Pump is well respected within our industry and has received numerous awards from Goulds,” Pearce added. “John Saladin Jr, and his father, both received the Golden Eagle award from Goulds Pumps — the highest award offered by Goulds to those individuals that promote Goulds products with ferocity and integrity. Tencarva has known the Saladin family for years, and the way they conduct business aligns very well with our business practices.”
After the acquisition, Tim Weber is continuing as sales manager, and Paul Gustafson is operations manager of Saladin Pump & Equipment.
